Four dead and several others wounded in US shooting

At least four people have been killed and several others injured in a shooting in the US on Monday.

Police in Farmington, New Mexico, said they believe the shooter, who was “confronted and killed on scene”, acted alone.

“The suspect’s identity is unknown and there are no other known threats at this time,” the police department said in a Facebook post.

The police said at least three civilians were killed and more were wounded.

Two police officers were also shot in an exchange of gunfire with the suspect – one city police officer and one with the New Mexico state police.

Both were in a stable condition.

The shooting was reported shortly after 11am in the Brookside Park area of the city.

Schools in the city were put on lockdown on Monday. Three remained in emergency lockdown while others were placed in what officials called “preventative lockdown”.
