‘At least 22 killed’ in US shooting as police hunt ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect

There are mass casualties after a shooting in Lewiston, Maine, with police still hunting for the gunman.

Authorities said they are investigating “two active shooter events” and people have been warned to take shelter.

“We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate,” the sheriff’s office said.

Police released pictures showing a gunman walking into an establishment with a rifle raised to his shoulder and asked for help identifying him.

Central Maine Medical Center said it was dealing with a “mass casualty, mass shooter event” but didn’t give precise numbers.

Police said on Facebook that the shootings happened at Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley.

They also posted a picture of a white car they wanted to trace.

Lewiston is about 35 miles (56 km) north of Maine’s largest city, Portland.

President Biden is said to have been briefed on the situation.
