Bus set on fire and police car flipped over as riot breaks out in Leeds

A police car has been flipped on to its side as unrest and disorder broke out in Leeds.

Crowds have gathered in the Harehills area, with police saying they are dealing with an “ongoing situation”.

Councillor Salma Arif asked people to stay at home amid what officers described as “pockets of disorder”.

At 5pm on Thursday, officers responded to a “disturbance” which involved agency workers and “some children”.

West Yorkshire Police said crowds began to gather and a decision was taken to remove both the agency workers and the children “to a safe place”.

They added: “A crowd started to gather and more officers were requested to attend the area, where some pockets of disorder were occurring.

“More officers have been deployed to the area to assist with the management of this incident.
