The VW ID. Buzz arrives in the US this fall, but finding one may be tricky

The VW ID. Buzz is launching in the US around Thanksgiving, but if you want one, you might have to hunt it down, as Volkswagen has been a bit stingy in allocating the electric van to dealers.

According to Automotive News, “Volkswagen will allocate the ID. Buzz based on how successful a dealership has been at selling the ID.4.” Volkswagen’s head of US sales, Andrew Savvas, said that each VW dealership will only get one or two ID. Buzz models for the vehicle’s launch. Savvas said that the ramp-up will be “quite tight” but it’s a way to reward “dealers who did a wonderful job on ID.4.”

The automaker’s limited-release plans don’t reflect its expectations for ID. Buzz sales in the US; in fact, its outlook is positive. Volkswagen Group of America CEO Pablo Di Si told Automotive News, “The car will sell extremely well for the first two years. Then you need to have innovations and different versions, that we have in the books, and you need to keep it interesting, need to keep it lively.” VW isn’t yet sharing sales expectations but expects demand to be strong at launch.

Those shoppers wanting to buy an ID. Buzz, once it lands, will come up against limited availability and possible markups. CEO Di Si has previously spoken out against price hiking at dealerships, but CarsDirect states that “shoppers should expect to pay a markup on the ID. Buzz.” If you’re interested in buying an ID. Buzz the minute it lands on US soil, start reaching out to dealerships now to see if you can lock in a deal at MSRP. Otherwise, wait for the hype and demand to die down.
