Teenage girl who was missing for more than a year found alive in wardrobe

A 14-year-old girl who was reported missing in 2021 has been found pregnant in the closet of a Michigan home.

A US Marshals fugitive team found the teen – who was in a distraught state – at about 5:30pm on Tuesday in Port Huron, Michigan, Deputy Marshal Robert Watson said.

“She was pretty upset, she was crying and she was pretty scared,” he added.

“She wasn’t sure what was going to be happening to her.”

The authorities were able to trace the girl after being tipped off to search the home.

She was later taken to hospital for a wellness exam, where she was found to be pregnant, Mr Watson said.

Child Protective Services told Mr Watson on Thursday that her father was “very relieved” that the teen had been found.

“He had been dealing with this nightmare for a year and a half. And he’s in a much better place now,” Mr Watson said.

Officials told the Detroit Free Press that they are pursuing parental kidnapping charges against the girl’s mother, who had custody of the teenager.
