SNP holds emergency meeting after treasurer Colin Beattie arrested

An “emergency meeting” of the Scottish National Party has taken place after the party’s treasurer Colin Beattie was detained by police investigating the party’s finances.

This is the second high-profile arrest over the party’s funding probe, after Nicola Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell, the SNP’s former chief executive, was detained by police.

Anas Sarwar, the leader of Scottish Labour, condemned the party “engulfed in scandal” as he waited to enter the chamber.
