Dozens of supermarket sandwiches, wraps and salads recalled over E.coli risk

Sandwich maker Greencore, a major supplier to UK supermarkets, has recalled some of its products because of the risk of E.coli, the Food Standards Agency said.

The products were recalled as a precaution just a week after the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) announced there had been an outbreak of E.coli which left some people in need of hospital treatment.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Greencore was recalling products from retailers including Boots, Asda, Co-op, Aldi and Amazon because of “possible contamination with E. coli”.

Last week, 113 reported cases of E.coli were linked to a “nationally distributed food item”, the UKHSA said, without giving any more detail on the product thought to be responsible.

The cases ranged from two years old to 79, with the majority of the infections in young adults.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We have been made aware by Greencore, who supply Asda and other retailers with pre-packed sandwiches, that they are recalling a number of products as a precaution because of the possible presence of E.coli.

“The full list of products is available on the Asda Product Recalls webpage. If you have purchased any of these products, do not eat them, please bring them back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.
