The NFL’s 2024 training camp kicked into full gear Tuesday, with all but a handful of teams reporting. ESPN’s NFL reporters will be found at each location throughout camp, and will provide information on position battles, notable appearances from new faces, compelling quotes from coaches and players and updates on injuries and holdout situations.

If Tuesday’s second practice of training camp was any indication of what Rashan Gary can do in new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s scheme, he could be headed for his best season.
At the end of a practice that was conducted mostly in a downpour, Gary ripped off three sacks in a four-play stretch during the final 11-on-11 period. He had sacks coming from both sides of the line. Granted, players aren’t in pads yet, but it was an illustration of the opportunities the edge rushers will have as they transition from a 3-4 to a 4-3.
“Hand in the dirt and not dropping back [into coverage],” Gary said when asked about the biggest difference for him in Hafley’s system. “I feel more explosive coming out of a three-point stance. Sometimes when you’re in a two-point stance you can create more false steps and with the hand in the dirt, the false steps are taken away.”
Gary, who last season signed a four-year, $96 million contract extension, has never had a double-digit sack season. — Rob Demovsky

General manager Dan Morgan wouldn’t set expectations for a Carolina team coming off six straight losing seasons, but outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney didn’t hesitate to. “I can say this. I’ve been [with] six teams and I’ve never been a loser, really … I don’t plan on coming here and just losing.”
Clowney, 31, has been a part of three losing teams in 10 years. Of the six teams, only the Cleveland Browns (7-10 in 2022; 8-9 in 2021) didn’t have a winning record while he was there. He was with the 13-4 Baltimore Ravens last season.
“I know what [winning] looks like,” Clowney said. “We’ve all got what it takes to win here in this organization.” What the Panthers don’t have is a proven player opposite Clowney with D.J. Wonnum and Amare Barno on PUP. The pass rush currently is a major concern. — David Newton

It doesn’t qualify as a full-fledged position change but the Chiefs are looking at Kadarius Toney as a running back in addition to wide receiver. Toney took some snaps out of the backfield last year for the Chiefs. Toney has worked with the running backs during individual training camp drills before moving over to train with the wideouts.
“That’s one of his strengths is to be able to move around and he had some positive snaps for us at running back last year and so I think he enjoys doing that,” coach Andy Reid said. “He’s pretty multifaceted there with what he can do and we’re going to try to utilize it to the best of his abilities there.”
Toney had a disappointing season in 2023. Twice he dropped an easily catchable pass that turned into an interception. He also lined up offside to nullify what would have been the go-ahead touchdown in a late-season loss to the Bills. — Adam Teicher
